Alexandra Ormond, President and Founder

A little bit about me...

Hi everyone, welcome to our page! My name is Alexandra Ormond. I am from Vancouver, Canada and have been living in Shanghai, China for over 12 years. Luckily for me, I grew up with an animal loving Mother, and had all sorts of pets growing up; from fishes to a horse! I have always felt comfortable around animals and it seemed that I had a special connection with them. My job as a Primary school teacher brought me to China in 2001 and since then I began rescuing animals. I never LOOKED to do it but I am the type of person that cannot walk by someone or something in need. Unfortunately,
here in China we lack a city shelter, SPCA or Humane Society. There are no animal protection laws or services to pick up or receive rescued animals. In Shanghai, if you rescue an animal, it is yours at least in the short term. So I learned quickly that if I didn’t do anything for an animal in need no one would. With the popularity of owning a pet increases, so does the homeless animal situation. As you can imagine with no threat of punishment, and the promise of money comes greed and lots of it. So the breeding, stealing and catching of dogs and cats just for meat and fur has increased, as well as, puppy mills, animal markets, and the never ending animal abuse..No animal is safe here, none.
I am trying to do my part through education at schools, organizing adoption days, TNR (catch, neutering/spaying and releasing) rescuing and rehoming these innocent loving animals. Although, I never condone buying a dog, I was gifted my first golden retriever from a good friend in 2002 after losing 7 rescued puppies to the parvovirus. This dog, Santos, was the best friend I have ever had. He and I lived in China together, moved back to Canada together and moved back to China together. I adopted another Golden here, Spark, in China in 2012 and Santos taught him everything he knew. These two dogs have helped me rescue many a cat or dog as they have such stable personalities; animals in need always gravitated towards them. I lost Santos in June 2015 to a liver tumour and named my rescue group Los Santos Animal Rescue in memory of him.
I hope that you can help us help the many animals in need here in China. please consider donating or sponsoring one of our rescues at
